Prolotherapy

PROLOTHERAPY, ALSO KNOWN AS "PROLIFERATION THERAPY" OR "REGENERATIVE INJECTION THERAPY" WAS FORMALISED AS A MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENT OPTION AS EARLY AS THE 1930'S.

The procedure involves the injection of an irritant 25% dextrose solution for the treatment of ligament and tendon injuries while the patient is under sedation. The skin is prepared as if it were for surgery and the procedure takes between 60 -90 minutes including preparation, sedation, administering the injections and of course the reversal of sedation.

The benefits of Prolotherapy is that the procedure accelerates healing of damaged ligaments and tendons, reduces pain, improves function and movement as well as reduce stiffness.

Prolotherapy can be beneficial in helping injured ligaments, joints, and tendons heal. It appears particularly useful as a non- surgical treatment for cruciate injuries.
